Backend Engineer (AI Systems)

What is the role?

AI models are only as good as the systems around them. As a Backend Engineer at Tensorplay, you’ll build the APIs, data connectors, streaming pipelines, and orchestration logic that bring AI capabilities to real applications. You’ll work closely with ML engineers to wrap model inference in production-grade services.

About you

You’re a backend generalist who has worked on high-throughput, low-latency systems. You’re comfortable designing REST and gRPC APIs, working with async Python or Go, and thinking carefully about concurrency, caching, and failure modes. You’re excited about the challenge of building backends that serve AI — with all the unique constraints that entails (streaming responses, long-running jobs, stochastic outputs).

Your Responsibilities

  • Design and build RESTful and streaming APIs for LLM-powered applications
  • Implement multi-agent orchestration backends using LangChain, LlamaIndex, or custom frameworks
  • Build data ingestion and processing pipelines feeding vector stores and knowledge bases
  • Develop job queuing and async processing systems for long-running AI tasks
  • Integrate authentication, rate limiting, and multi-tenancy into AI API platforms
  • Collaborate with frontend teams on WebSocket/SSE-based streaming interfaces

Requirements

  • 3+ years of backend engineering experience with Python (FastAPI/Django) or Go
  • Experience building production APIs — authentication, versioning, rate limiting, caching
  • Solid understanding of async programming, message queues (Celery, Redis, RabbitMQ)
  • Familiarity with SQL and NoSQL databases, and vector databases
  • Experience with Docker and basic cloud deployment
  • Understanding of streaming protocols — WebSockets, Server-Sent Events

Nice to Have

  • Experience integrating with LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, or open-source models)
  • Knowledge of LangChain, LangGraph, or similar orchestration frameworks
  • Background in building multi-tenant SaaS platforms
